About Us

Folk & Fable Heritage Studio is led by Laura White and Alice Sage. We met working for the National Trust in the Lake District, and discovered a shared passion for archives, people and stories.

Now we work with organisations, businesses and individual clients to preserve your unique collections and histories.

Collections Management Specialist

What’s your favourite part of this job?

I relish the opportunity to create order from what feels like chaos. As clients’ collections are organised and recorded, the process unlocks amazing stories that we can help to share in a meaningful way.

What does collections care mean?

High quality storage and archiving can improve the lifespan of objects and help them survive for generations – I find it hugely rewarding to make simple interventions for such great rewards. My museum experience, and training with industry leaders, gives me confidence to handle and store all kinds of objects and collections.

What’s your passion?

I’m fascinated by people’s homes and what they choose to keep. Ordinary objects can reveal the most about someone’s life or identity, and as a collector myself, I understand the value people place in their belongings.

Proudest moment working in heritage?

At the National Trust, I’ve worked with internationally important collections, including Beatrix Potter’s original artwork, photographs and manuscripts. However, I feel most proud of our first Folk & Fable project, which allowed me to explore my family history with my Mum, and the creation of a book about my grandparents. This project reinforced my passion for helping others share their stories.

Historian and Curator

What’s your favourite part of this job?

Each project is an opportunity to learn about new subjects and discover untold histories. It can be a very meaningful and life-changing experience for people to share their stories through interviews or archives, and I love helping them on that journey.

What does it mean to be a curator?

A curator has to bring together lots of skills: I am a historian and researcher, a writer, editor and graphic designer. It takes a good eye and a strong narrative sense to shape a collection of things into a story.

What’s your passion?

My work as a social historian has proved to me that every life contributes to our rich cultural tapestry, and every person’s story is important. I’m a tenacious researcher and will throw myself into any challenge to find out facts and evidence!

Proudest moment working in heritage?

The best exhibition I ever curated was ‘The Clangers, Bagpuss & Co’ at the V&A back in 2016. I got to rummage through the archives of the Smallfilms animation company, and even hold Bagpuss himself! It was an honour to commemorate such national treasures.
